Arsenal's Best 11?

When I was writing my piece on the 'British Core' for All ArsenalI came across a very good article in The Irish Mirror, in which it discussed Arsenal's best 11 this season, using opta and Who Scored statistics. It used each players average ratings on their performance in each match so far this season and this is the team they came up with, or rather is statistically Arsenal's best 11:

                            Ospina
       Bellerin Gabriel Kosciely Monreal

                 Coquelin  Cazorla

           Welbeck    Ozil     Sanchez

                           Giroud

First off just a couple of key points: Gabriel's average rating is obviously a lot higher seen as he has only made 2 starts and came off injured in the third match, so theoretically it is easier to score a higher average rating than if he had made, say 30 appearances all season. I was also surprised that Debuchy wasn't in the team, but then again Bellerin has been excellent. I'm sure the other player that surprised many was Chamberlain and his exclusion from the squad. Therefore it is interesting to note that the 3 players closest to making the starting lineup would have been, yep you guessed it: Debuchy, Mertesacker and Chamberlain.

Alexis Sanchez, Santi Cazorla and Mesut Ozil are in the top 3, in that order, with Sanchez been rated the highest. This may surprise a few due to the ridiculous over the top criticism Ozil has received, but i'm a big fan of his and it didn't shock me in the slightest.

Here's a look at what my starting 11 would be, assuming all players are fit, which is as likely as Spurs winning the Premier League in the next 5 years. Which in case you didn't know is zero, anyway here it is:

                                Ospina
    Debuchy Mertesacker Koscielny Monreal

                      Coquelin   Ramsey

           Sanchez      Cazorla        Ozil

                               Giroud

So I made just 3 changes. I still believe that Debuchy is our best right back and Bellerin will serve as an excellent understudy. Mertesacker, although not at his best this season is still vital for the team I believe, as he is a calming presence and a leader. Ramsey comes in to make the team more solid and give us a lot of energy in the centre with Coquelin, while the other change sees Ozil move to the left and Cazorla just that little bit more attacking in the centre. I think Ozil has been very good working from a wide position and since our team is very fluid, where players actually start natters less than say, a rigid, long ball team like..eh... Man United, for example.

Obviously this wouldn't be the team i'd pick for every game, for example at home against the lesser teams, who come to defend i'd bring Bellerin, Chamberlain and perhaps Welbeck in.

Right that's it for today, What would your best team be? Do you agree with the stats on our best team this season? Let me know what you think in the comments.

Subjectively, Cosmic Kid.
